Indicative year-one all-in starting points in USD, from our detailed cost guides (linked) and current to May 2026. The two lowest are zero-visa licences; add residence visas and registrations on top. Government fees are pass-through; ArxSetup professional fees are fixed and quoted in writing.

The catch

Why "cheapest" is a trap if you read only the headline.

The advertised "from" price almost always means a zero-visa licence with a shared desk. The real cost of running a UAE company includes several items the headline leaves out:

  • Residence visas — establishment card + each visa (entry permit, medical, Emirates ID, status change). See IFZA visa cost for a worked example.
  • Corporate Tax & VAT registration — required filings even at 0% tax.
  • Renewals — a zone that is cheap in year one may renew higher; check year-2 costs.
  • Banking acceptance — some cheap zones face more friction opening accounts, costing you time.
  • Activity approvals — regulated activities add external approval fees.

How to choose

Cheapest for you, in four questions.

  • How many visas? Zero visas → Meydan/IFZA zero-visa tier. Several → compare visa-inclusive packages, where the gap narrows.
  • Which activity? Trading/logistics often favours JAFZA; crypto/commodities favours DMCC.
  • Need easy banking? A premium zone can save weeks; see UAE corporate bank account.
  • Mainland reach? If you sell to UAE government/retail, weigh a mainland licence instead.

Frequently asked

Common questions.

The questions clients ask most before committing. Current to 2026, reviewed by counsel.

What is the cheapest free zone in the UAE in 2026?

On a zero-visa licence, Meydan (from about USD 3,400) and IFZA (from about USD 3,510) are among the lowest-cost mainstream UAE free zones year-one. The cheapest option for you depends on how many visas you need, your activity, and banking acceptance.

Why are some UAE free zones so cheap?

Low headline prices usually cover a zero-visa licence with a flexi-desk only. Costs rise quickly once you add residence visas, an establishment card, Corporate Tax and VAT registration, and any activity that needs external approvals. Always compare year-one all-in, not the advertised "from" price.

Is the cheapest free zone the best choice?

Not necessarily. Banking acceptance, visa quota, audit requirements, permitted activities and renewal cost vary between zones. A slightly more expensive zone can be cheaper over five years and easier to bank. Match the zone to your activity and visa needs first, then optimise cost.

Can I get a UAE residence visa with a cheap free-zone licence?

Yes — most free zones offer visa-bearing packages, but the zero-visa headline price excludes the visa. Budget for the establishment card plus each residence visa (entry permit, medical, Emirates ID and status change) on top of the licence.
